Meeting other Youth Councils

Six youth councillors attended a special day at Shoreham by Sea where they met other youth councils to swap ideas and tell each other about their projects. It was interesting to see how other Councils work and we had great fun in the afternoon when we all took part in raft building, mountain biking and wall climbing.

raft building ... very very successful!
wall climbing ... a long way to the top but spiderman here manages it!
mountain biking ... will they still be smiling when they get back!

What we get up to at the weekend!
Our support officer, Jo Losack, organised a team building weekend for us. We had a fantastic weekend of fun, activities and sheer hard work!  We came up with some innovative ideas of how to tackle the problem of “staying safe” whilst chatting on-line which was one of the issues that young people in Chichester said was a problem and that there wasn't much advice about.

Getting Creative!

We worked in groups and one group were given a movie camera and had to make a horror movie about the topic, another group put together a puppet show aimed at 10 year olds to get some important safety messages across, and the third group wowed everyone with their song and  “performance of a lifetime” which they felt confident would go to number one in the charts!

We also got the chance to try archery, orienteering and had a great time in the evening where everyone showed off and took part in "Chichester's Got Talent".

Here's some photos of the weekend!

Loving the wigs!! Which way?  Orienteering proves tough.
Wowing the crowds! Spiders on the loose! Busy colouring the scenery for the puppet show.
Some of us were better shots than others! Reliving the memories of barbie and action man!

 Our film wins award!

"Hammered!" - our film that we made on teenage drinking was entered for the BT Seen and Heard Award and we were regional winners!

Four youth councillors visited the Houses of Parliament, for a personal tour, put questions to MP's about youth issues and then accepted their award at a special ceremony.

V Launch

Young volunteers came together for a day of sport, dance, art workshops, graffiti, and general celebrations!  The day was organised to make others aware  about the benefits of volunteering.

This year we hope to organise events to help let others know how beneficial volunteering can be.
